Should I Buy a Voltage Optimiser for My Home?

Voltage optimisers are sometimes promoted as a way to reduce household electricity bills.

At Stag Solar, we do not sell or recommend them as a general money-saving measure for domestic properties. In most homes, the likely savings are simply too small to justify the cost.

What does a voltage optimiser do?

A voltage optimiser reduces the voltage supplied to the home.

Whether this saves energy depends on the incoming voltage and the types of appliances being used. Some equipment may consume less at a lower voltage, while many modern appliances will see little or no worthwhile saving.

Would it work in my home?

There is no reliable one-size-fits-all answer.

A proper assessment would be needed to look at the supply voltage and how electricity is being used in the property.

Is it worth the cost?

For most domestic properties, we believe the answer is no.

Once the purchase and installation cost, likely savings and equipment lifespan are considered, the financial return is unlikely to be attractive.

If the aim is to reduce household energy costs, proven technologies such as solar PV and battery storage are generally a better place to invest.
